Sunny Net brings American television to island

Date Posted: 2008-08-31

American television programming is now available on Okinawa, and itís in real time.

Sunny Net, a leading Okinawa internet service provider, is now offering more than 225 channels of American television broadcasts to its customers, a far cry from the limited programming offered by AFN. Sunny Netís IPTV, a digital television service system using Internet Protocol over a network infrastructure, also may offer delivery by a broadband connection.

Just having the choices of so many channels is a plus, Sunny Net leaders point out, but then happily point out their service has a DVR function that allows customers to record any programs, and then watch them on home computers, or on a television set. All the customer must provide, says Sunny Net, is ADSL or fiber optic internet access, and a computer. They do all the rest, providing media devises, cable television source, a DVR and 2Mbs of dedicated bandwidth.

Registration into the Sunny Net program can be done online, or at Sunny Netís shop. The service costs $130 per month. The one-time set-up fee is $125. For more information on Sunnynetís digital TV system call (098)983-7557.

Sunny Net is a one-stop provider, offering additional services including internet, IP phones, domain and website hosting, AFN and SkyPerfect television, and computer repairs. Its technicians are trained in state-of-the-art techniques for hardware and software trouble shooting, custom computer builds, modem and router configurations and anti-virus program installations. Sunny Net also offers wireless broadband, a service faster than ADSL and less expensive than fiber optic, and IP phones which they tout as being more economical than land line telephones.

Sunny Net is located near Kadena Air Base, on Highway 58. Traveling south from northern camps, Sunny Net is located on the right hand side, just past Kadena Gate 1. Coming from southern areas, look for Sunny Net and make a left turn immediately before Gate 1.
