Scrumptious cuisine offered in historic neighborhood

Date Posted: 2008-08-30

Shuri castle, the hub of the ancient Ryukyuan kingdom, sits prominently in the midst of a historic neighborhood steeped in culture and tradition. It’s also a neighborhood with five spectacular restaurants nestled inside an established hotel.

Okinawa Miyako Hotel is less than a 15-minute walk from Shuri Castle and other Shuri district historic sightseeing points, making it a perfect place for a break that offers choices; many of them. Five restaurants and bars await, including the newly opened Café Restaurant Avancer, a buffet extravaganza laden with scrumptious main dishes and a mouthwatering array of desserts.

Café Restaurant Avancer, with its relaxing, spacious interior set out in a casual, stylish ambience, is the signature restaurant in the hotel. Its use of fresh seasonal ingredients is evident in everything from appetizers to main dishes—bountiful choices for both lunches and dinners—that include grilled pepper chicken, seafood dishes of marinated prawn and whitefish, salads, a variety of pork dishes, pasta, doria, gratin, stir-fried vegetables and the always popular curry and rice.

The chef truly excels at dinner, where customer selections are cooked to order in the chef’s corner. Café Restaurant Avancer’s head chef also features a food ingredient of the month, also cooked in front of guests, at dinner. Local Okinawa beef is this month’s chef’s special, while Agu pork, another Okinawa specialty, is featured for September and October. Each of the chef’s specials are seasoned with original porto sauce or natural sauce.

Guests dining at Café Restaurant Avancer face challenges in making selections from the well-stocked buffet, but all have the greater adventure along the dessert line, where everyone’s favorites—chocolate cakes, tiramisu, cream puffs, assorted ice creams and fresh fruits—await.

Café Restaurant Avancer is open 11:30 a.m. ~ 3 p.m. for the luncheon buffet, with last order at 2:30 p.m. The luncheon buffet is ¥1,800 for adults weekdays and ¥2,000 on weekends, ¥850 for children and ¥450 for pre-school age children. The dinner buffet is served 6 p.m. ~ 10 p.m., with last order at 9:30 p.m. The evening buffet for adults is ¥3,600 weekdays and ¥3,800 on weekends. Children pay only ¥1,200 and pre-school age children pay ¥600.
