Japanese make arrest in on-base molestationDate Posted: 2008-08-22 Police are accusing Reynaldo Saurin Silva of touching the student’s private parts during an encounter February 12th in a school bathroom. Silva was working as a custodian in the school under a contract with a Japanese company. Two students witnessed the incident, police say. Japanese police were brought into the case because Silva does not hold Status of Forces Agreement status. A teacher first reported the incident to military police after noticing the boy’s behavior following the restroom visit. Military Police turned the case over to local police, who conducted their own investigation before presenting the case to the Naha District Prosecutor. Silva, who resides in Ginowan City, has denied the allegations. He is in Japan on a permanent residence visa, and says he was only conversing with the 12-year-old student. Silva has been banned from the school, and the custodial company has fired him. |
