Land owners file new protests on base use

Date Posted: 2008-08-20

Private land owners whose property is being used for U.S. military base operations have again let their opposition voices be heard.
The Okinawa Defense Bureau has accepted a protest letter from ten members of the anti-Military Base Landowners Association who are opposed to being forced to have their land used by Kadena Air Base. The members each own plots of land larger than one tsubo (3.3 square meters). The group represents some 1,300 members who own more than 1,400 square meters of land on Kadena.
The letter to the Okinawa Defense Bureau was signed by 123 association members. The association is demanding land be returned to the individual land owners.
