Urasoe presses to take second round victory

Urasoe Shogyo High School called on Suguru Miyahira’s big bat to press for a second round win in the Japan National High School Baseball Championships.

The Okinawa squad pounded out a 12-9 win over Chiba Keidai Fuzoku to propel them into the third round of the summer tournament. Miyahira hammered in three RBI’s which going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Okinawa Urasoe Shogyo takes on Tokyo-Higashi Kanto DaiIchi High School today. Tokyo earned the right to face Okinawa by upending Naruto Kogyo of Tokushima, 5-2, on the strength of slugger Masahide Hirose’s two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Elsewhere in the championship series, Kagoshima Jitsugyo battled into the 12th inning before breaking a 1-1 tie with Miyazaki Shogyo to claim a 4-1 win. It’s the first time in 12 years Kagoshima has advanced to the third round. Kyogo Hotoku Gakuen called upon Daisuke Ujiie’s big bat to edge Chiben Gakuen at Koshien Stadium. Ujiie pushed a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to drive in the winning run.
