Urasoe Sogyo heads to tournament for 3rd time

The Japan National High School Baseball Tournament kicks off Saturday in Hyogo Prefecture, with Urasoe Sogyo on tap to represent Okinawa.

Urasoe Sogyo won the rights with a July 13th victory before 15,000 screaming fans at Chatan, sending the team packing for the trip to Koshien Stadium for a third time. A total of 55 teams are participating in this, the 90th annual summer classic at Koshien Stadium, which is also host to the Spring Invitational High School Tournament.

It’s been 11 years since Urasoe Sogyo made the trek, but it’s a first for the team it will face in the opening round. Urasoe Sogyo takes on Fukuoka Iizuka High School on Monday. The tournament hits the championship game on August 18th.
