Sheraton Hotel to open in Okinawa

Date Posted: 2008-07-25

Sheraton will make its second debut into Okinawa’s burgeoning tourism market in 2010, opening a hotel in Ginowan City.

The new Sheraton will be located near the Okinawa Convention Center, the prefecture’s largest, and near Ginowan Marina, a 15-minute drive from Naha City and 40 minutes from Naha International Airport. The Sheraton Okinawa Ginowan Hotel deal was made between Starwood, Sheraton’s parent, and Joint Hospitality Company, Ltd.

“We’re thrilled with the landmark entry of Sheraton into Okinawa, Japan’s year round paradise resort island,” says Lothar Pehl, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Vice President for the Korea, Japan and Guam region, “and with Joint Hospitality Company’s decision to select the Sheraton flag for what will be an outstanding hotel in one of Japan’s most important destinations, in an agreement that will enhance Sheraton’s already impressive portfolio in the Asia Pacific Region.”

The new hotel will have 245 guest rooms, including more than two dozen suites. Starwood officials say there will be a 320 square meters ballroom, a lobby lounge, all-day dining restaurant and a Japanese restaurant, together with the standard gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a spa.
