Narcotics Agency busts American with cocaine

Date Posted: 2008-07-17

Concealing cocaine inside backs of candy snacks wasn’t good enough to keep an American man away from watchful eyes of the Okinawa Narcotics Agency.

The narcotics cops, part of the Kyushu District Public Welfare Office, have arrested the 23-year-old American on charges he violated narcotics laws by possessing 7.4 grams of cocaine worth ¥450,000. Leon Aiberheart was arrested in Naha City’s Aja district after police found 19 bags of cocaine inside his car and at a friend’s house.

Police say Aiberheart had been hiding the cocaine inside the snack candy bags, beneath the candy. The cocaine, cops say, was being sold at restaurants and shopping areas. The Okinawa Narcotics Agency first learned of Aiberheart from an informant that tipped them of the trafficking. They placed him under surveillance, watching him visit night clubs in Naha City and Okinawa City, selling to cocaine to both Okinawans and Americans. One officer said some customers were American GI’s, and the agency is now working with the Navy Criminal Investigative Service on the case.
