Internet provider now offering Free WiFi HotspotsDate Posted: 2008-07-10 WiFi Hotspots have been established in the Hamagawa, Sunabe, Miyagi, and Mihama American Village areas of Chatan-Cho, Zampa, Senaha, Toguchi, Tokeshi and Nagahama areas of Yomitan-son, Misaki and Yogi areas of Kitanakagusuku-son, and the Korinza, Chibana Park Avenue, Gate 2 Street and Music Town areas of Okinawa City. GLBB, working together with www.okinawahotspot.com, is assigning each of its customers a user name and password permitting them to access the new WiFi Hotspots. GLBB says it can accommodate non-GLBB customers in several ways. “If the person is not a GLBB customer,” a spokesman says, “we can switch providers for the customer in a matter of 15 minutes. Just give us a call and we’ll set up an account over the telephone.” What’s more, the GLBB official says, the company will provide the first month’s internet service free. A monthly ¥1,000 fee to GLBB is the second option, for those wanting to keep their present internet service provider. GLBB will assign a special user name and password to authenticate the subscription at all WiFi Hotspot locations. A GLBB official says plans are under way to expand WiFi Hotspot locations into Uruma City and Kadena-cho soon, and to other locations within the next several months. GLBB says those with Skype/Vonage/WiFi 2.4 Ghz wireless VoIp phones will be able to use them on the new WiFi Hotspot network. Customers need to take their devices and provide the hardware (MAC) address info to GLBB, where it will be authenticated for the network. A continuously updated list of WiFi Hotspots is easily accessed on computers by opening the Wireless connection and looking for SSID “OkinawaHotspot.com”, clicking on the network and then surfing. A GLBB official says current customers signing up a friend or acquaintance as a new customer will qualify the individual for a free month’s internet service. |
