Nanjo City man on extended jogging trek around OkinawaDate Posted: 2008-05-30 The 67-year-old Nanjo City man is on a 466.2 kilometer marathon run encircling the island, drawing attention to how metabolic syndrome is bad for people. His quest began May 24th from the Sashiki area in Nanjo City, the same place he’ll finish Saturday in front of Community Hall. Dozens turned out to wish Shinjo well, and to encourage him in his mission to spread the word on how metabolic syndrome must be wiped out. Mayor Keishun Koja sent Shinjo on his way, along with a pat on the back from Juntatsu Takaesu, director of the Nanjo City Health Office. “We’re going to issue a completed runner certification from the city,” said Mayor Koja, “and congratulations. We’ll be waiting for you at the finish line.” Nanjo City’s monthly community magazine was published last Saturday as Shinjo began his run, and Sashiki Junior High School students delivered the magazine to all citizens in the community. Shinjo says he’ll run roughly 60 kilometers per day on his run. |
