Mexico, Brazil featured in upcoming Latin event

Date Posted: 2008-05-30

The High Flying Capoeira martial arts will headline a slate of Latin performances in Okinawa, together with the Brazilian Tribal Dances Afro-Dance, and. Mexican Ballet Folklorico

The performers will be joined by a live Afro-Cuban-Brazilian session that the organizers, Capoeira Academy Okinawa, are sponsoring. The event, Latin Heat, will provide rhythm and passion they promise only comes from Latin sounds.

Latin Heat will take place on Saturday, Jun. 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Ando Restaurant, Grill and Event Hall, located outside Foster Spot Gate on Highway 58. The events are on the 5th floor, above Tenkaichi Stadium. Performers include My LifeStyle, Inc., from Tokyo, Japan’s first full-time Latin Cultural Arts Academy, Capoeira Zoador Academy from Tokyo, Capoeira Academy Okinawa and Ballet Folklorico’s Okinawa Chapter.

“This year is really going to be a great event,” says Benjamin Moriniere of Capoeira Academy Okinawa. “We worked hard to ensure the community will have a great time at this, our third annual event.” He says the event has been moved to an earlier time this year “because a lot of what we do at Capoeira Academy Okinawa involves kids and families, so we wanted t make sure kids could enjoy as well.

Tickets are on sale at Capoeira Academy Okinawa, and at Ando. Presale tickets are ¥2,500, or ¥3,000 at the door. Tickets for kids under 13 are half price. For more information, call 098-936-8883 or 098-936-6939.
