Education Board dismisses one teacher, suspends another

Date Posted: 2008-05-09

Okinawa Prefecture’s Board of Education has doled out severe penalties to two teachers arrested in separate cases.
A female teacher arrested by police and charged with immoral actions with a student was given a disciplinary dismissal by the Board. The junior high school teacher, who worked at a central Okinawa school, is charged with immoral activities with a 14-year-old boy in her classroom between January 23rd and February 7th. She told police investigators “I love him” and “I wanted him” as she spoke of the boy.
Drunk driving earned a southern Okinawa school teacher a six-month suspension by the Prefecture Board of Education. The teacher was arrested April 21st after being picked up by police. The man had begun drinking beer at home, police say, but then went shopping afterward. Officers say the man was so drunk, he was zig-zagging down the road, not driving straight.
