GI admits to being robbery ringleader

Date Posted: 2008-04-13

A 22-year-old Air Force security policeman has finally admitted to authorities he masterminded a taxi holdup last month, guiding the four teenage sons of military personnel in committing the crimes.
Two of the four teenagers ages 15 to 19 who were implicated in the March 16th assault and robbery of a taxi driver in Okinawa City had told authorities while being arrested that the ringleader was an older guy who had befriended them. The boys were arrested and charged with the theft of 8,000, and beating the taxi driver after first being apprehended in connection with another taxi robbery. The boys told Japanese police the airman had invited them to his home on Kadena Air Base, fixed them meals, and allowed them to stay overnight.
Japanese police suspected the airman earlier, but during questioning the Air Force man denied involvement. Police say the airman has confessed, and explained his involvement.
