Flower designs fixed for season's first fireworks

Fireworks? Already? Seems like only yesterday we were soaking in the spectacular beauty of pyrotechnics launching over Okinawa, yet it is time to get ready for the season’s first.

The Sea and Fire Festival Saturday inaugurates the 2008 festivals and fireworks season in Ginowan City’s Kaihin Park. The Ryukyu Kaien-Sai is commemorating it’s fifth anniversary, and gets a jump on the early summer with the launch of 10,000 dazzling fireworks. Organizers say they’ve built the colorful displays in a very special way this year, skyward displays in form of flower arrangement designs.

Live music accompanies the fireworks exhibition, providing a perfect collaboration that even includes eisaa dance. The show’s computer-driven to integrate the laser light show beams, the music and the fireworks illuminations, and the central Okinawa location with its combination of ocean beauty and crystal clear skies will make it an April to remember.

Kaihin Park is directly behind the Okinawa Convention Center in Ginowan City, 4-2-1 Mashiki. It’s only a five-minute walk from the Convention Center, although the somewhat limited parking is a few hundred meters further away. Leisure seats and cooler boxes are prohibited on the park grounds.

The festival grounds open at 1 p.m. Live bands get into action at 2 p.m. and entertainment on the stage starts at 4 p.m. The one-hour long fireworks show starts at 6 p.m..

Advance admission is ¥2,500 for adults, or ¥3,000 at the door. Children under 12 tickets are ¥1,500 or ¥2,000 at the gate. Children under three are free. Special S-seats for where 16 people can sit together are ¥16,000, a real group bargain.
