U.S. civilian busted for convenience store theftDate Posted: 2008-04-10 William M. Gray was arrested by Okinawa City Police Monday, nearly a week after his image was clearly captured on security cameras at the convenience store March 31st. The 22-year-old employee of a camera repair company concession at Camp Foster has admitted to stealing the money. Gray had entered the store and asked the clerk to fix chicken for him. While the clerk was away from the cash register, preparing the chicken, Gray opened the register and took the money. The theft wasn’t discovered until after Gray had left the store, and the clerk checked the cash drawer and realized money was missing. After checking a security camera video and seeing Gray taking the money, he immediately called police. Security surveillance cameras outside the store showed Gray’s vehicle and its license plate. Police immediately issued orders to be on the lookout for the car. Ultimately the car was spotted on Highway 58 in Chatan Town, Gray was picked up, and taken to a police station. Gray confessed to stealing the money, telling police he was short of money. |
