Apartment owner goes to court in squabble over who owes who

Date Posted: 2008-03-27

An apartment owner has taken the construction company to court, charging the contractor forged documents pertaining to building safety, and failed in nearly two dozen instances to fulfill design requirements.

The apartment owner, who’s asking “What have you done with my house and apartment?” is asking for ¥150 million in legal damages from the construction company. The twist to this suit is that the construction company has already taken the apartment owner to court, demanding he pay ¥29 million still owed.

The apartment owner says there are 23 different things the construction company and design architects failed to complete properly, and further charges the “Prefecture should inspect the building and design carefully, but it missed”. The owner says the building is not earthquake-proof, despite paying for that quality construction level. He also charges the contractors failed to install the stairs on the outside of the building, as agreed to, and that construction contractors used shoddy materials.

“This fight is not yet finished,” says the construction company spokesman. The construction company says it wants its money for work already completed.
