Visiting tourists surveyed

According to a survey by Japan Travel and Hotel Association Okinawa Branch, tourists visiting the prefecture spend an average 147,000 during their stay. Most of them stay three nights and the majority has been here at least twice. The survey was conducted in January, March and July and covered all visitors to the prefecture during that time, 61.2 percent of who answered.

Most say that they spend their money mostly in restaurants, rentals cars and sightseeing, diving, playing golf and nightlife. Buying souvenirs was not high on the list. On average, they spend 5,000 less on souvenirs than in restaurants.

The survey also revealed that visitors spend more in the summer time than in January. They also stay longer in July when 49 percent stay three nights. In March 61 percent stay only two nights.

42 percent of tourists are young couple 20 to 30 years old, while visitors of the age 30 to 50 are almost all, 95.5%, traveling with the family.
