Software company first to apply for special Henoko tax breaks

Date Posted: 2008-02-24

United World Technologies is the first company seeking to tap into a special program authorized to Nago City in exchange for agreeing to accept the transfer of Futenma Marine Corps Air Station to its Henoko district.
Designated a special financial zone, Nago City is authorized to engage companies and offer tax breaks and other financial incentives. United, a software development company, has been approved by the Cabinet Office Okinawa Branch. “This company has satisfied conditions to receive the special financial measures,” a Cabinet office official says, “so it looks like this company will be the first.”
Fumio Kishida, the Minister of Okinawa Development, has begun necessary paperwork to authorize the special incentives. Only companies located in Nago City are eligible, and each must have at least 10 employees and a viable business plan. Shunsuke Tateishi, president of United World Technologies, operates the company and its 18-person staff, from inside the Nago Multi Media Hall near Camp Schwab. United began operations in January 2007.
