Aeon Company becomes Daiei’s largest shareholder

Date Posted: 2008-02-14

Aeon Company, which owns Jusco and distributes its Topvalu products brand nationwide has taken a 19.41% interest in Daiei.

Marubeni Corporation, which holds 18.55% of the company shares, drops to number two. The trading house and its alliance of companies still own 29.51% of the Daiei stock, maintaining its control and influence as the company’s largest shareholder.

Aeon, which initially bought a 15% ownership of Daiei stock last march through a business and investment link between the two companies, has been buying additional stock since late last year, and says it will continue to purchase shares through this month.

Daiei will begin carrying Aeon’s Topvalu brands on its store shelves beginning next month.
