Adoption workshop forums being hosted by MCCSDate Posted: 2008-02-07 The Exceptional Family Member Program operated by Marine Corps Community Services has conducted a forum on adoptions in the past, but now believes it’s not enough. “We dedicated four hours to providing those who were considering adoption, and those who had already made the decision to adopt, with information about adoption,” explains Elizabeth Treon, the program coordinator. “We came to the realization, “she says, “that the information we provided to these two groups is unique and needs to be provided separately.” The International Adoption Workshop has been divided into two forums, with the first, appropriately titled “The Process”, scheduled for February 15th from 9 a.m. ~ 1:30 p.m. at the Camp Foster Personal Services Center classroom in Building 439. Treon says “The Process” is designed for those considering international adoption. Her staff will be providing answers to questions and concerns in order to help make final decisions regarding adoptions. Information will be provided from Legal Services and Support, New Parent Support Program, the U.S. Consulate and the Okinawa Adoption Support Group. A second forum, “In the Pipeline”, has been designed to assist families that have already decided to move ahead with international adoption. “In the Pipeline” will provide information about the Dossier Process, developmental expectations, MAC flight requirements, stress management and other situations adopting parents can expect to encounter. “We still plan on dedicating four hours to each forum,” Treon adds, “but with the division of the International Adoption Workshop, we will be able to provide even more information and answers.” Prospective parents can obtain more information on the International Adoption Workshop at DSN 645-9237. |
