Two teens arrested for beating smaller friend

Date Posted: 2008-02-07

Two girls angry because a friend refused to play with them are in Naha City Police custody, charged with brutally beating the 14-year-old girl.

The battered youngster is hospitalized with multiple injuries to her face, hands, legs body and stomach. Doctors say the girl will spend a month in the hospital recovering from the five-hour beating.

Police pieced together the incident from eye witness accounts from two teenage girls who watched the beating at a city park near the Wakasa area January 12th. The two assailants, one 14 and one 18 years old, asked the small victim to play with them, only to be told “no, not today.” The pair then told her “that’s not good,” and threatened “if you don’t come with us, we’ll beat you up.”

After kicking and pummeling her for five hours, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the victim made her way home, where an ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital. Rescue workers and doctors say the severity of the girl’s injuries and called police.

The 14-year-old attacker has admitted “Yes, we kicked and beat her many times, with many girls helping.” The 18-year-old, however, has denied involvement, telling police “No, I didn’t kick or beat that girl at all.” Police say they’re still investigating and sorting out the conflicting stories.
