Homemadesoul goes straight to the heartDate Posted: 2008-01-30 ![]() ![]() Homemadesoul is an artist who’s equally comfortable playing, arranging and creating music, and he knows how to slide gracefully from funk, hip-hop, jazz and gospel, all neatly bundled in a soul wrapper. He’s been working his way into the musical scene since 2001, just after enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, taking his boyhood idols—Musiq Soulchild, Al Green and Stevie Wonder—and adapting their styles into his own home grown sound. Born Curtis Clark Jr., the Philadelphia native jumped into music at age five, performing in churches. Growing up in a family of musicians and singers, Clark credits the church performances for laying the groundwork in soul. “I want to promote originality,” he says. “After all, that’s what ‘homemade’ stands for, keeping it homemade!!!” He loves producing and writing, taking his vocal and piano skills and applying them to his own songs. “One I got the feel of writing songs, it really made me want to be in the background of music,” he explains. “The feeling of seeing a musical track growing from idea to become a full blown song is mindblowing.” Homemadesoul is riding the wave of popularity of his latest album, Homemadesoul Volume 2: Love. Newly arrived on Okinawa after a stint stateside, he’s working with Hit House Entertainment. He’s already performed in the U.S., as well as in Oman, Iraq and Kuwait. Two Homeamadesoul shows are on tap on Okinawa in February. He’ll appear tomorrow night alongside the YingYang Twins, live in concert at the Banyan Tree All Raks Club.at the Mardi gras Ball 2008 on February 16th. |
