Arsonist says he just wanted to die

Date Posted: 2008-01-17

A 48-year-old man that set fire to his apartment in Urasoe City last year told the Naha District Court his life was miserable, and he wanted to die.

The Court listened to Yoshikazu Kadekaru’s story about having no job, having a mother who’s been sick for a long time, and his being broke, then sentenced him to more than three months in jail for committing the arson. He admittedly was drunk when he set fire to the apartment, which led to his arrest.

Kadekaru told police he was a gambler, and he knew “my mother will never get out of the hospital and never get better. She is dying, and I have no future. I just wanted to die myself.” He told authorities he’d “had enough of living.”
