Date Posted: 2008-01-11

With the Lunar New Year approaching, the Central Okinawa Residents Association is organizing a rice cake making demonstration on Sunday.

Making rice cakes, known as mocha, is an annual New Year’s tradition, and the residents association wants to share the culture and friendship with foreigners. The rice cake session, along with a community clean up day, will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Gaiku Park, just off Gate 2 Street.

Participants will gather at the Center Community Hall near Tommy China store, the same street Phai’s House of Jade is located on. All foreigners are invited to join in the fun, and enjoy Okinawa’s cultural traditions.
