F.C. Ryukyu signs former National Team coach to lead Okinawa

Philippe Trousser is back in Japan, but this time to lead Okinawa’s Football Club Ryukyu.

The 52-year-old French man, who led the Japan National Team in the World Cup hosted jointly by Japan and Korea, was greeted at Naha International Airport by Asamune Ie, chairman of the Prefecture Soccer Association. Welcome to Okinawa banners were flying as Trousser told the jubilant crowd “I’m so happy to come back to Japan, and Okinawa is a first for me.” He promised to “do my best to make a good Okinawa team” as he received flowers from Miss Okinawa.

“Okinawa children have special playing endowments,” Ie told Trousser. “We want you to see them play, then figure out what’s wrong and what you can do for them.” Noriaki Kakazu, Naha Airport Building Corporation President, praised F.C. Ryukyu, telling the team leaders “to get Mr. Trousser is great news, and good for Okinawan children, because he can give the dream to them.” Trousser was praised for his “special philosophy of taking care of players’ spirits and minds.
