New Aguni ferry goes into service from Aug. 16

The newest ferry plying waters between Okinawa and outer islands is Ferry Aguni that completed its maiden voyage on Aug. 16. The new 450-ton ferry that replaces the old Ferry Aguni runs regularly a daily round trip from Tomari Port to Aguni Island. A one-way trip takes two hours.

The ferry has a capacity of 180 passengers, and is specifically designed to accommodate also disabled passengers. It is 65 meters long, 11.6 meters wide and cruises at a speed of 17.5 knots. A one-way ticket costs 2,770 for adults and 1,390 for children from 6 to 11 years of age.
