Okinawa experiences second warmest year since 1928Date Posted: 2007-12-30 The temperatures on Okinawa were 0.6 degrees warmer than normal in 2007, with July a scorcher. Weather officials say temperatures were higher than any year since records began being kept in 1928, except for 1998. Global warming is being listed as a cause for the higher temperatures, but other experts say heavy rains were contributing factors. The 2007 typhoon season spawned 24 typhoons, but only nine struck Okinawa. Only one, lashing Kume Island, was big enough to cause serious damages. |
