Camping car company to open factory in OkinawaDate Posted: 2007-12-14 The numbers are expected to increase dramatically in the near future as a camping car manufacturer in Gifu Prefecture, Toy Factory, announced it will soon open a new factory in Uruma City’s Special Free Trade Zone. Production at the new factory is expected to open in February. Akifumi Fujii, the company’s president, says Okinawa’s the ideal location for the burgeoning camper business. “In Gifu Prefecture, costs to hire workers and get land is becoming too expensive,” he says. “At first we thought of going to Vietnam or China, but found we must build the camping cars in Japan, so we picked Okinawa.” He said the free trade zone was the selling point, because Toy Factory expects to export many vehicles to China in the coming years. The Toyota Hi-Ace box vehicle has been the mainstay for Toy Factory’s camping cars, and Fujii says he’ll buy the vehicles from Okinawa Toyota dealers. He says Toy Factory will also use the Toyota transport network system, explaining he expects high volume sales in mainland Japan next year as the Japanese baby boom generation begins retiring. Fujii says his company’s already getting a lot of inquiries about the camping cars from people planning their leisure recreation time. |
