Businesses, consumers bemoan rising gasoline and fuel oil pricesDate Posted: 2007-12-04 Kerosene is widely used in the cooler northern towns and villages for heating fuel. Kerosene, which is also used in many water boilers in laundries, rose ¥6.7 per liter. Shops and businesses are complaining they can’t raise their prices, and must absorb the price hikes, and a few are already hinting they may have to close their doors. Meanwhile consumers are saying “we might need wood heaters, and not use kerosene.” Gas station operators are being forced into price wars with each other, dropping prices ¥1~2 to keep their customers from going elsewhere in search of cheaper prices. Drivers are saying “we don’t drive anymore on weekends. We stay home, or go places where we don’t need to use our cars.” |
