Master craftsmen unveil their work at annual Tsuboya Pottery Festival

Date Posted: 2007-11-22

Tsuboya pottery is known worldwide by sculpture lovers as one of the unique pottery styles.

Today through Sunday, the pottery masters who mould the artwork will be showing their works at the 28th Tsuboya Pottery Festival in Naha City. At least 25 artisans will exhibit the best of their vases, coffee cups, pottery squares and shisa (lion dog) masks, and will offer many items for sale at 20~30% off regular prices.

Many of the pottery masters will offer festival visitors an opportunity to actually put their hands on the potter’s wheel to create products. They’ll also promote the efforts and works on up-and-coming sculptors. The Tsuboya Pottery Festival is sponsored by the Tsuboya Pottery Project Cooprative Union.

The festival takes place at Tsuboya Elementary School in Naha City, 3-14-12 Makishi. The school is only a three-minute walk from the Urban Monorail Makishi Station.
