Okinwa airman releases sixth album

Date Posted: 2003-08-22

Local Air Force NCO, Mark Brown, a.k.a. "Focis" released his second album on July 15, entitled, "Still Dreamin” on Dirty Redd Productions / Del Mundo Records / Foresite Productions. "Still Dreamin*" is a 12-track Album with no fill-in material. Focis produced each track on the CD except one, and recorded all vocals in his home recording studio called "The Barber Shop Recording Studios."

A Detroit native, and a nine-year Air Force veteran, Focis took an early interest in music. He began recording while stationed at Dover Air Force Base with his friends "MPI" (Mad Phlavas Incorporated) at "The Barber Shop Recording Studios." He now performs solo and makes his way in the independent music industry as a premiere up and coming music producer with credits on more than six albums.

The album has strong productions skills, smooth grooves, well-delivered vocals and it lacks the rated-X / parental advisory tag that accompanies most of today’s music industry albums. As an Emcee Focis credits his musical influences as Common, KRS-1, The Roots, Nas and Mos Def; as a producer he is influenced by Dr. Dre, Jay Dee, Hi-Tek. As an Artist, Focis says he is a voice for the "Everyday Man.” "I talk about topics that relate to the normal person, but with a lot of skill," he says.

Focis will separate from the Air Force early next year to attend "Full Sail Academy," known to graduate the top music producers of the world. He also plans to release a couple of more albums on his "Foresite Productions" imprint with friend Redd Branner on his "Dirty Redd Productions / Del Mundo Records" imprint. In his future music industry endeavors, Focis says he prefers a production deal or contract, opting to work behind the scenes. Focis also has plans to continue running his independent production company "Foresite Productions / Barbershop Recording Studios" here on Okinawa, as he waits to enter the Full Sail Academy early 2004.

Copies of Focis, "Still Dreamin," can be purchased at Spin City (Okinawa-City), Camp Futenma PX, Camp Kinser PX, Kadena BX, Teruya Music (BC Street Kadena Gate 2), and Takara Records (Naha 098-863-3061).
