1,000+ to ride in weekend Tour de Okinawa events

Yonbaru is the setting for this weekendís Tour de Okinawa, the islandís biggest cycling race and other events expected to draw more than 1,000 participants.

Celebrating its 19th anniversary, the Tour de Okinawa features a 330km route around Okinawa Island in a two-day race. The 200km menís race sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union is bringing prominent foreign racers and overseas teams invited by the Tour de Okinawa organizers, will attract spectators from all over the island to the venue in Nago City and other northern Okinawa municipalities.

There will also be a Womenís 50km International Race, an International Junior Race, along with six sub-category events for amateurs. The Tour de Okinawa began in 1989, but the junior race is now in its fourth year.

The 19 teams participating in Sundayís race starting at 6:50 a.m.include-Eliteman(UCI 1.2 class): Nippo-Meitan-EQA(Japan), Aisan Racing Team(Japan)Matrix Powertag (Japan), Team Bridgestone Anchor (Japan), Skil-Shimano (Japan), Team Miyata (Japan), VC Franches Montagnes Velo-Passion (Switzerland), Chinest Taipei National Team (Taiwan), Velo Club la Pomme Marseille (France), Hong Kong Pro Cycling (Hong Kong, China), Taiwan Cyclist Federation T.C.F. Team (Taiwan), Perlizumi Sumita Ravalello (Japan), Team Okinawa, Nalsima Frend (Japan), NIFS in Kanoya (Japan), Nihon University (Japan), Hosei Cycling Team (Japan), Team Comrade Giant (Japan), and Team Citec Germany (Germany).

Other event options open to the public are the -Women's International Race 85km(with National License), Men's Road Race 50km(Under 35), Women's Road Race 50km, Junior Highschool Road Race 50km, Touring around Okinawa island one day course 170km(you need enter another race on Nov.11(Sun.), Ie island course, Izena island course, Iheya island course , and the Onna family course Ė
