Ashibinaa Park: A place for gate ball

Ashibinaa Park in Chatan Town is small and compact, but a relaxing place to meditate or enjoy a quiet afternoon.

The 1.88 acres (.76 hectares) green zone has the essential playground equipment for children, and a tennis court for those looking to swing a racket. What Ashibinaa Park has that many donít is gate ball. Gate ball? Most Americans know it as croquet, the sport of knocking wooden balls against each other and through wickets. Reservations are required for using the tennis court or gate ball course. Call 936-0077 to make them.

The quiet is wonderful, and thereís plenty of parking for 20 cars. Ashibinaa Park, located at 830-1 Kamisedo inChatan Town, is open daily to 10 p.m. Travel north on Highway 58 to Route 23 in Chatan, then turn left at the second traffic light.
