Father and son ghost costumes win contest

Date Posted: 2007-11-09

Ghosts and goblins were everywhere at Mihama’s American Village for the Halloween Mihama Costume Contest.

Organized by the Mihama American Village Business Group Association, the costume contest was a first, and local leaders were pleased with the turnout of more than 300 participants. The goal was to generate a Halloween party with an American atmosphere, drawing both local citizens and the international community.

Ghosts and Japanese umbrella ghosts were abundant, along with animation characters and pet costumes, but the ghosts won out. Jeremiah Persson and his father John picked up the $300 first prize with their ghost costumes of Grim Reaper and Edward Scissorhands.

American Consul General Kevin Maher joined Chatan Town Mayor Masaharu Noguni and the business groups to watch the audience having fun. “Mihama is the most American feeling place on the island,” an organizer said, “so we made it lots of fun.”
