NTT Docomo lowers cell phone charges

Date Posted: 2007-11-01

NTT Docomo has announced plans to cut its basic telephone and mobile telephone charges by 20~30%.

The changes, which are to begin November 26th, fall under a new “Value Plan”, where a customer entering a two-year contract will see basic rates fall from the current ¥2,100 to ¥1,050. KDDI’s simple plan basic charge is already ¥1,050, while SoftBank has even lower rates. Softbank basic charge is ¥980, plus a ¥21charge for every 30 seconds phone use.

Docomo mobile phone charges have not changed, but officials say customers needing new mobile phones will see increased ¥20,000~30,000 charges. Payment plans are being established to cover the new phone purchases as part of regular service payments. Docomo says customers contracting service for more than two years will receive discounts to ¥15,750 on new phones.
