Marine, tourist drown in northern waters

A Marine gunnery sergeant and a tourist visiting from Kobe died Saturday in separate diving incidents off northern beaches.
U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Chad. E. Love drowned while scuba diving off Cape Zampa. His diving partner found Love face down in more than two meters of water. The 34-year-old Marine’s scuba tank was still on his back, but the mouthpiece was not in place. Officials say his body was scratched and bruises.
Police believe Love was caught by a large wave as he was surfacing, being send crashing into the rocks. An investigation is under way.
A 20-year-old mainland Japanese student drowned near Cape Manza while snorkeling with friends. Shuhei Kamimura was visiting the Motobu area, venturing into deeper waters than his colleagues. When he disappeared, friends found him in two-meters deep water. Kamimura was not breathing when taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
