Teen dies, two injured in Naha massage parlor fire

Date Posted: 2007-10-16

A 17-year-old massage parlor worker died Sunday evening as flames swept through the third-floor business.
Nine people were trapped inside the Soap Land Idle when the blaze began about 7:30 p.m. The 49-year-old man managing the massage facility and a 21-year-old worker were critically injured. Six others, including two male guests, escaped the inferno with minor injuries.
The massage parlor, located on the third floor of a four-story building, was destroyed. Fire fighters needed over an hour to subdue the flames.
Police are investigating the fire, alongside fire inspectors. A focus point for police is whether the massage parlor was violating Japanese laws prohibiting the hiring of adult entertainment business workers under the age of 18.
