Awase Meadows to host prestigious 54-hole event

Date Posted: 2007-10-05

Okinawa’s top golfers take to the links this weekend for the annual Awase Meadows Golf Course Club Championship, a 54-hole event.

The tournament runs Saturday through Monday. A separate division has been established for golfers over 50, and officials say the 2007 Club Championship will be a tee time event. Awase Meadows Golf Course, in operation since 1948, has been home for many early morning golfers enjoying a few relaxing rounds, hordes of weekend warriors competing for Monday morning bragging rights, and several challenging tournaments pitting the best golfers on the island against each other.

A bevy of prizes are up for grabs at this year’s Club Championship, including a pair of round-trip tickets to a United Airlines gateway city, courtesy of United Airlines and Omega World Travel. United and Omega will also offer a business-class upgrade. Tokyo Dai-ichi Hotel Grand Mer Resort is giving four dinners for two.

A hole-in-one on the 15th hole at Awase Meadows this weekend will be really big news, as that golfer wins a weekend getaway at the Tokyo Dai-ichi Hotel Grand Mer Resort, plus tickets for two to any United Airlines stateside destination.

Golfers—and spectators—will have a chance to augment their arsenals at the Awase Meadows Golf Course Pro Shop. The Pro Shop staff is offering the latest equipment, ranging from high-tech titanium drivers and face-balanced putters, to stand bags and performance clothing from companies such as Callaway, Ping, Titelist, Mizuno, Nike, Ashworth, Ahead, Cobra and Footjoy.
