Blue Lagoon Festival raising money for coral preservationBy: Bill Charles Date Posted: 2007-09-27   The Blue Lagoon Festival opens at 2 pm Saturday at 21st Century Forest Park's outdoor stage. Music runs from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. A beach cleaning kicks off Sunday’s Blue Lagoon Festival events, followed by entertainment from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Afrikasia and the Aloha Sisters will appear on Saturday, along with Japanese bands performing a variety of musical genre. Ko-Dai from B:RIDGEstyle, Yole Yole, Cutman-Booche and Caravan are Japanese headliners visiting Okinawa from the mainland. Sunday entertainment features Tha BlueHerb, Spinna B-ill, PJ from Dubsensemania, the Majestics, U-dou& Platy, Ice-Koh and American singer Braddigan. One-day advance tickets are ¥4,000, or ¥4,500 at the gate. A two-day ticket for ¥7,000 is being sold only in advance. Tickets are available at Ticket PIA, Okinawa Coop Apple, Tower Records Naha Branch, and at other CD shops across the island. QAB Broadcasting and Churaumi Foundation for Supporting Poisonous Starfish Extermination are both supporting the Blue Lagoon Festival. Charity events proceeds will be used for coral preservation, including a WWF Japan Coral Protection Center at Shiraho Coral Village. Organizers say global environmental pollution has been reducing the water quality in oceans surrounding Okinawa, leading to whitening and death of coral. They predict Okinawa coral will disappear within ten years of increased preservation actions aren’t undertaken. The Blue Lagoon Festival goal, organizers stress, is to make people aware of how important it is to keep the natural beauty of Okinawa’s ocean waters. |
