Woman assaulted at Miyakojima convenience store

Date Posted: 2007-09-26

Angry at being assaulted, a woman gave chase to her assailant at a Miyakojima convenience store early Tuesday.
Tsutomu Shimajiri was captured and arrested about 500 meters away from the store, moments after he attacked the woman a second time, grabbed her cell phone and broke it in half. The woman, who suffered injuries to her legs, head and face, said Shimajiri came up to her and began kicking her as she stood in front of the convenience store. The two struggled and fell on the road, and the assailant fled.
The woman called police, then began chasing the man down the road. She caught him, and the 31-year-old Shimajiri struck the woman again, then took her cell phone and smashed it.
I was not trying to kick her, Shimajiri told police after being apprehended. I just tried to threaten her a little, but somehow my leg got onto her face. It was kind of an accident. The attacker then told police I didnt mean to kick her.
He told police he had never met the woman before, and that he did it because she was disturbing my way. She should not stand in front of the store. Police say Shimajiri was drunk.
