Charity festival to raise money to protect coral

Date Posted: 2007-09-21

Coral species in Okinawa waters are dying because of water quality issues, and environmental groups are banding together to raise money in an effort to fix the problem.

More than a dozen bands will add their support to coral preservation initiatives by participating next weekend in the Blue Lagoon Festival on Okinawa. The two-day open air festival at 21 Century Forest Park will kick use music and entertainment to involve citizens in recognizing the pollution problems responsible for killing off coral species, and to have fun at the same time.

A beach cleaning on September 30th will focus attention on environmental concerns, as festival participants join with other Okinawa groups to rid local beaches of debris left by tourists, surfers and swimmers.
