Southeast Botanical Gardens’ Summer Wonderland 2002By: David Knickerbocker Date Posted: 2002-08-15    During Summer Wonderland 2002, Southeast Botanical Gardens is inviting children and their families to see, touch, feel, and experience a true wonderland during their event. The main attractions include a garden of butterflies and bugs, a petting zoo complete with prairie dogs and tropical birds, an ice world with a frozen bed and ice slide to play on, a water tunnel of fun in which you’ll positively get soaked, and much more. The park also has a kaleidoscope workshop where little ones can make their one kaleidoscope, and another teaching the art of making handmade shishi (shisa) dogs, a mythological creature that supposedly wards off evil spirits. There’s so much to enjoy, you’ll run out of time before you run out of things to do! Join in other fun activities while learning stone art, garden combing, natural dying, how to press flowers, and more. Other enjoyable attractions offered during Summer Wonderland 2002 include an insect gallery, island of rabbits, power stone scoop, kaleidoscope gallery featuring artwork from several of the top artists in the trade, and a photo studio where you can get your picture taken in many creative, fun scenarios. Summer Wonderland 2002 is taking place from now until September 1, so get your tickets quick! All access prepaid tickets are available at Kadena ITT, MCCS Tours, and Okinawa INDEX, or you can get your passport tickets at the door for ¥1,200 for adult and children 16 and up or ¥700 for children ages 3 to 15. Southeast Botanical Gardens is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is your chance to see one of Okinawa’s most beautiful tropical gardens while giving your children an adventure they won’t soon forget.
