Ill-fated flight’s passengers showered with gifts, meals

Date Posted: 2007-08-23

Tourists aboard China Airlines Flight 120 didn’t get the vacation start they expected, but they are being treated as special guests in Okinawa.
“We want to make every passenger’s feelings of shock and fear of the accident soften,” Okinawa officials said as they feted passengers following Monday’s fire and explosion moments after their flight arrived at Naha International Airport. The Okinawa Kanko Convention Bureau and the Prefecture Hotel Life Environment Association teamed up with Cand Shop, Porche, and Nanto World Group to present gifts to every passenger.
Gifts included kariyushi wear, brown sugar, sweets and other goods manufactured and produced by the groups. Okinawa salt was another of the special gifts.
Daiei Tourist Company had a 22-person tour group aboard the China Airlines flight, and those visitors were treated to a dinner party at Taipei Restaurant. The Prefecture Visitors Bureau representative attending presented gifts to those visitors. “I want to say thank you,” said one tourist. “I feel better now. Better than yesterday, when I thought I’d die in the plane. Now I’m alive and I want to enjoy Okinawa.”
