Yonabaru moves up Sunday tug-of-warDate Posted: 2007-08-17 The tug of war was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. last weekend, but the festival was postponed because of rain. It was then decided to go for 5 p.m., but ultimately chose 4 p.m. as the best time for the expected 100,000 spectators to enjoy the 25th annual version of the tug of war and festival. The Yonabaru Festival opens at 3 p.m. Saturday, with a variety of groups and events, including the town’s junior high school brass band, Eisa and sumo, and live entertainment. Vaidurya Live is scheduled for Saturday starting at 6:30 p.m., and So-Bo performs at 8:20 p.m. Fireworks cap the evening at 8:45 p.m. Sunday events begin with a children’s tug of war from 9 a.m. to noon. Food, games and entertainment booths will operate throughout the festival. Following the tug of war, entertainment on stage will include JJ’s Blue Moon at 7:45 p.m. |
