Movie depicting ravages of war to play in Nago

Date Posted: 2007-08-15

The realities of war, and the quest for world peace, are behind this Sunday’s showing of an award-winning movie in Nago City.
The documentary “Himeyuri” took honors at the Japan Conference of Journalists, and will play twice Sunday at Nago’s Citizen Hall, at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Producer Ms. Ohganeku says Himeyuri “awakens our imagination, and is a precious movie that presents the truth about reality of war.” Directed by her husband, Shibata, the movie tells of a former Himeyuri woman’s experience.
Ms. Ohganeku says “you can feel their experiences as though you were there.” The Nago City native and her husband will be present for the screenings, and he will address the crowds.
Advance adult tickets are ¥1,000, while children’s tickets are ¥500. At the door, adult tickets will be ¥1,300. Nago City was chosen as the site for the documentary presentations, because of its proximity to the proposed new military airfield, which producer Ohganeku believes would not further causes of peace.
