Tourists to get new sightseeing perspectiveDate Posted: 2007-08-10 JTB Okinawa is teaming with a couple local companies to launch tour bus service on open roof buses. The three-meter-high, roofless buses are to be called SkyBus Naha. Promoters say the 48-passenger buses will let tourists “enjoy the wind of Okinawa”. The service begins October 1st, and will run on a test basis for six months. From then, customer demand will dictate schedules. The business is a coalition by Okinawa Bus Company, JTB Okinawa and Tokyo Limosine Company. With cherry blossom season upcoming in January, officials promise the buses will make the run north to Nago City for a clear view of the blooms. The bus tours will operate from the DFS Gallery in Naha, touring downtown Naha, including Kokusai Street and Tomari Grand Bridge. The tours will cost ¥3,500. “The roof is open, so it’s a different view, even for people who look every day,” says a JTB Okinawa official. “It looks different. I hope every tourist will enjoy riding the bus.” Tour buses now conduct tours between Naha Airport and Shuri Castle, complete with on-board entertainment enjoyed by tourists. What isn’t there, says JTB Okinawa, is the open roof perspective, and it doesn’t travel very far. |
