An article that appeared on Japan Update website on Jul 12 that reported an incident at Okinawa Kokusai University involving a British assistant professor and a group of students protesting MCAS Futenma by hanging the American flag from a university building balcony upside down contained several inaccuracies including the name of the university president that should have read Tomoaki Toguchi instead of Chomei Toguchi and the name of the assistant professor that should have read Peter Simpson. Professor Simpson has also pointed out that many students, not only his, were involved, and also some of his colleagues.

Simpson also wants to point out that he never accused the president of breaking the law, only of violating his right to freedom of expression. He also denies saying anything that was attributed to him in the article.

Japan Update sincerely apologizes for sloppy reporting. Peter Simpsonís response can be seen on Japan Update website here.
