Studio Aranjuez makes furniture to last lifetime

Date Posted: 2007-07-27

There's nothing like the smell of wooden furniture to enhance anybody's home.

Masayuki Toguchi with Kumiko Kinjo have made wooden furniture to customers' specifications in his Aranjuez woodwork studio since 1987. “I want to make furniture pieces that really fit to customer’s homes and will last for a lifetime,” he says.

Before he starts working on a piece, he will discuss with the customer in detail what the new piece of furniture should be like.

He mostly works with Ryukyu pine or camphor tree. He says that especially camphor tree has a very good delicate fragrance. “If a child grows up in a home with camphor tree furniture, he or she will remember that pleasant smell the rest of his or her life,” Toguchi says.

To get to Aranjuez Studio from KAB Gate 2, go to Goya Intersection and turn right on Hwy 330 towards Camp Foster. After passing Four Seasons Restaurant on your left, turn right at the first traffic light, and then right again at the second corner. Aranjuez is on the second floor of a building. There is a large pay parking in the back of the building that is available for free to Aranjuez customers.
