Hong Kong to become regular Okinawa flight destinationDate Posted: 2007-07-20 The Hong Kong Express Airline Company's vice president has already visited Okinawa Governor Hirokazu Nakaima to discuss the new service, which he expects to begin in September. Jhon Guo-son says his airline will join with Hong Kong government officials and Kainan Airline Company to develop the agreement. Chin Yuan, director of Hong Kong Express Airline’s Osaka branch office, Jhon Guonson and Governor Nakaima have pledged to aggressively promote the new service, and develop a flight schedule. Jhon Guonson has already visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to seek support. Direct Hong Kong-Naha service isn’t new. Japan Air Lines had the route before, but terminated service in April 2003. Jhon Guonson says “Okinawa’s nature and beauty, macrobiotic foods and longevity are popular among Hong Kong people, and we want to bring Hong Kong people to Okinawa.” He emphasized his intent to get operations under way quickly. Governor Nakaima echoed the idea, saying he’ll “meet with Hong Kong’s Ministry of Land and Transportation too, to work together and make business.” Hong Kong Express Airlines has been flying charter flights to Okinawa since April. Twelve charter flights have already been completed, with another 34 scheduled for July~September. After that, Nakaima and Jhon say, it’ll be regular service. Hong Kong Express Airlines also announced plans this week to purchase a cargo jetliner for direct Okinawa service, transporting foods and other Okinawa products direct to Hong Kong. The cargo planes now go through Taiwan to Hong Kong. Hong Kong Express says it will also fly to Kagoshima and Okayama Prefectures in mainland Japan. |
