Nago sues construction company over missing floodgate valvesDate Posted: 2007-07-20 Mayor Yoshikazu Shimabukuro charges the company with violating its contract, which was to construct a system to draw water away from a river to a dam. The company completed the project, then removed a set of control valves. The mayor wants the valves back, along with ¥500,000 damages. The Nago City Office says work was completed in March 2006. At the time, the construction company’s parent unit was in bankruptcy, and did not pay its construction company, even though Nago City had paid it the money. The construction company contends “since we didn’t get paid, we wanted to get our property back.” A construction company spokesman said the valves are worth ¥4.3 million. Nago City says “construction work had been finished, and we did apply the subsidy money,” referring to money received from the government for the project. The construction company contends it should have received the subsidy money. |
